I'm at my wit's end... The vehicle is an 86 full size bronco 4wd with a 302. I have replaced the entire fuel system (sans injectors)... the truck had been sitting for a long time prior to me owning it. I have replaced the cap/rotor/plugs/wires. The truck surges at idle and idles very poorly (usually won't stall), it will not move in gear, will just stutter and stall out. In park/neutral it will rev poorly and backfire through the intake.
There's no funny smells or obvious engine noises. I have searched for vacuum leaks and come up empty. I have a feeling it's either a MAP sensor or a timing problem, but I'm not good with OBD1 vehicles and at a loss.
Any help that you can offer would be MUCH appreciated.
whats the timing set at? get a light, pull the spout connector and make sure that motor is at 10* btdc.
like others have said pull codes, its free and easy to do. search on the forum for specifics.
I would also recommend checking the fuel pressure both with key on and then again with engine running. its should be 39-41psi at idle.
