Need help figuring out why the front driver's side tire leans in at the top. From the front of the truck, the tire looks like a "\". I have replaced the tie rod ends, I had to replace the hydraulic assist control vlave anyways. But still the tire leans. Not sure what to try next. I need to fix this so I can drive the truck without killing tires. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is a '74 F250 4x4 Ranger. I have pictures but they are too big to upload here. Let me know if you would like them I can email them.
X2, looks like the king pins and/or trunnion bearings are shot on that side, if so, you'd have some serious death wobble action going on, have you jacked it up and gave the tire a good rocking back and forth to check for slop?
First i'd ask yourself if you really want to invest the time/money to rebuild your low pinion, closed knuckle, drum brake axle, OR, pick up a 78/79 high pinion, open knuckle, disc brake axle that's virtually a direct bolt-in.
It's certainly a job you can tackle yourself if you're mechanically inclined, or if you want to save money on labor costs..... i'd highly recommend you have the factory truck shop manual on hand when/if you decide to tear into it, it's been awhile since i've been through one of these older axles, NAPA may still have access to most of the parts you need, if not, these guys here should have most everything you need....
