Lift the wheel off the ground and grasp the top and bottom of the tire and check for play. If you're not able to check that way, lift it high enough to stick a 2X4, or better yet a 4X4, under the tire to check for looseness. That should be a good start.

is the truck lifted? i had a problem with one of my axle drop brackets coming lose and the tire being able to move in and out. other than that it could come from any play in the front end, tie rod ends or ball joints or even pivot bushings

When I put the 35x12.5x15 on my truck I got the loose steering. The truck was all over the road. I tighten the steering box up and it helped.
I still need to replace it when I get the money. Here is how to do it.

Before you tighten the steering box, check the tie rods and all of the steering stuff.

I had a truck with 38's on it that had a death wobble, turned out the steering stabilizer was bad once I replaced it no more death wobble.
