Hey guys,
I have noticed that on my right front tire on my 1987 ford f250 diesel with a 6.9 is starting to get somewhat bald and is the only one to be wearing like this out of the four tires. So i jacked it up and was able to wiggle the tire back and forth just a little bit. I also noticed that in the steering linkage hooking up to the tire that there were adjustments with nuts on the threaded linkage. would this fix the wearing if i adjusted them? Anything would help. Thanks.
No it wouldn`t. You need to find where the "play" is coming from and replace any worn parts.
As well as the steering joints you need to check for wear in the upper and lower ball joints and in the wheel bearings.
Usually wear in just one front tire is due to worn ball joints but can also be due to a faulty manufacture tire.
its a 4X4 and i just got it in december so am not sure when it got its last tire rotation. Anything else? i am unclear about the adjustments to the arms or whatever they are called hooking up to the tires though. any help with that?
Like LazyK said, you need to find where the play is coming from. It could be a loose wheel bearing or tie rod.
The truck is 24 yrs old and is going to have wear. Check all steering components, spring hangers and bushings, U joints in front axles and drive lines.
I have had much better service using a truck alignment shop for alignment than any regular automotive or tire shop.
