Question Ford specific ODBII tool?

Hello everyone, I just purchased a 2000 Navigator and my backup sensor system is not working. According to the online info I should be able to scan it and tell which pieces of the system is malfunctioning based on the codes. However, this requires an ODBII scan tool that's capable of accessing Ford specific modules, such as the backup system, not just the engine as is the case with most cheapo scan tools. Any recommendations for the right tool for the job?

Thanks,
Tomasz

Most of the chain auto parts shops have scanners which are free to use. It should get a code regardless of how vehicle specific it is. Get the code and look up its meaning on the Interweb.

IIRC, you need a scanner that can read chassis codes for the backup sensor system since it doesn't set a CEL.

Their scanners will be worthless for the auxiliary systems. Those systems communicate over the OBDII link (SCP bus, actually), but are not part of the OBDII system.

You need a much more advanced scan tool. The scanners used in professional shops (Snap On or MAC, for example) certainly will work. There may be less expensive alternatives available.

Here is a complete Ford Module list. Ford Module List

I have AE and have used it on 3 different Fords. It has been extremely beneficial and was not very expensive.

Thanks, I confirmed that AE is able to scan the backup system. Now I just need to find $400 to get the Total Ford ScanTool Bundle. Searching in the couch cushions now...
