If should be a rear sump oil pan if it came out of a truck. If you are going to use the stock exhaust manifolds make sure on the passenger it will clear the top frame rail.

A R/H car exhaust manifold will be a different length and different turn angle and folks think they need to notch a chunk (yea I said notch, MORONS) the top side of the frame.

Yes get the motor mounts and what ever else he will let you get, I would hate to be mid swap and need something off the truck and it not be setting right there?

L&L sell kits for BB swaps......

“PLEASE READ BEFORE GETTING LOST IN THE COLORFULL PICTURES”

Excuse the “Grave Digger” paint job. It was the best way to hi-light what I need for the frame sections though.

So here we have it. There are six (6) sections that I need in order to continue with this build project. I have systematically laid it all out and labeled them A thru F starting on the driver’s side behind the cab, working toward the rear, around to the passenger side, and then forward to the cab again. This should avoid confusion as I discuss with any potential frame section suppliers.

I of course would want to discuss some critical things before you just start cutting away at your frame.

Ideally these frame sections need to come from a 1977.5-1979 (low-boy) F250 or F350 frame. Looking for SOLID sections with no rot and VERY MINIMAL pitting if any.

In green are the cut sections that I require. From them, I will meticulously cut out exact areas I need. In a coming post, you will see my actual cut areas.

If you can supply one (1) or more of any of these sections, let’s talk!

Driver Side:

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3401.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3401.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3375.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3375.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Note how tight the gap is between pieces A & B. This will literally need to be the width of the cut

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3376.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3376.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Note that C needs to be cut just forward of the cross-member

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3381.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3381.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Passenger Side:

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3402.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3402.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Note that D needs to be cut just forward of the cross-member

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3382.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3382.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3383.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3383.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Here in Red are the areas I actually need to cut out and replace. I wanted to show these in case you already have a cut up frame and were wondering if anything you have might actually work for what I am doing.

Again, all sections labeled A thru F in the same order.

Section A is the only section that I don’t show entirely marked in red what I need. What is missing is the entire flat underside of the frame from green cut line to green cut line. That is why I need so much green section compared to what you see marked out in red. All other photos show complete my actual cut outs.

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3413.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3413.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The lower right cut (bump stop) in Section B actually goes all the way under the frame

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3408.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3408.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

This lower cut out on Section C actually goes all the way under the frame

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3409.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3409.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3410.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3410.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I will probably combine all these vertical sections on Section E into one big piece. The area on top is more cosmetic than structural rot. There is a lot of pitting there that will be easier just to replace.

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3415.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3415.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_3416.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3416.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

So I will have to measure it, but Section A is the longest at about 3'. When it comes to shipping, the pieces should be able to be wrapped in something like brown paper, taped up good, and just put a shipping label on it. UPS or FedEx.

FTE friends....I really need you on this one!!!

Just a question and you may have already answered it but why not just replace the enitre frame? Or maybe even just the back section of the frame.

I want to keep the original frame as all numbers match. (Frame to Cab...and all that to the Title).

I just can't locate a frame around here (or parts truck at a reasonable cost or frame condition) to out right buy and do the whole rear section in one piece like you say. Plus, I would not be so confident in it's strength. I know people shorten them that way all the time...but something about it just doesn't feel strong and safe for me.

I know it's shortening a frame in this video, but it shows you how to retain the strength of the frame after you've cut and welded it. Notice how it's cut:

Shorten a Truck Frame - YouTube

I could only find a Chevy video.

Well...I'm not opposed to that I guess, and I know where I could make those cuts on my frame to clear everything, but the chances of finding a donor frame in these parts are slim to none.

would a two wheel drive rear frame work. i know your along ways away from me and someone here would know if it will work. cut the back part of the frame and weld it in. was thinking if you cut the frame that much it might be hard to keep it square and true.

Hmmm...not sure.

I'm not too concerned about keeping it square and true. I will probably put some cross braces on it before I cut anything, but the approach was to do one piece at a time. As in cut it out, weld it in, move on to the next piece. With this frame its only going to get more rigid as I go.

Let me just start off by saying you are doing a great job & I really look forward to seeing the progress. That being said I would really recommend trying to come up with an entire frame to replace that one. If keeping your numbers is the driving factor in keeping this frame it would be much easier to section those into a new frame rather than replace 50% or more of this one. Of course this is just my opinion, but I really think you'd be much farther ahead & should end up with a better finished product.

BDawg171 I don't know were in Mass you are located but there is guy in stafford ct that has over 30 parts trucks (all dent sides) and I am pretty shore he would have a few frames laying around that he would cut up. He is also a great person to know for parts. I can get you his number if you want it.
