Cheyenne: The Build
A R/H car exhaust manifold will be a different length and different turn angle and folks think they need to notch a chunk (yea I said notch, MORONS) the top side of the frame.
Yes get the motor mounts and what ever else he will let you get, I would hate to be mid swap and need something off the truck and it not be setting right there?

Excuse the “Grave Digger” paint job. It was the best way to hi-light what I need for the frame sections though.
So here we have it. There are six (6) sections that I need in order to continue with this build project. I have systematically laid it all out and labeled them A thru F starting on the driver’s side behind the cab, working toward the rear, around to the passenger side, and then forward to the cab again. This should avoid confusion as I discuss with any potential frame section suppliers.
I of course would want to discuss some critical things before you just start cutting away at your frame.
Ideally these frame sections need to come from a 1977.5-1979 (low-boy) F250 or F350 frame. Looking for SOLID sections with no rot and VERY MINIMAL pitting if any.
In green are the cut sections that I require. From them, I will meticulously cut out exact areas I need. In a coming post, you will see my actual cut areas.
If you can supply one (1) or more of any of these sections, let’s talk!
Driver Side:

Note how tight the gap is between pieces A & B. This will literally need to be the width of the cut
<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&current=IMG_3376.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3376.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Note that C needs to be cut just forward of the cross-member

Passenger Side:
<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&current=IMG_3402.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3402.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Note that D needs to be cut just forward of the cross-member

Again, all sections labeled A thru F in the same order.
Section A is the only section that I don’t show entirely marked in red what I need. What is missing is the entire flat underside of the frame from green cut line to green cut line. That is why I need so much green section compared to what you see marked out in red. All other photos show complete my actual cut outs.
<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&current=IMG_3413.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3413.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
The lower right cut (bump stop) in Section B actually goes all the way under the frame
<a href="http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/?action=view&current=IMG_3408.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/BDawg171/IMG_3408.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
This lower cut out on Section C actually goes all the way under the frame

I will probably combine all these vertical sections on Section E into one big piece. The area on top is more cosmetic than structural rot. There is a lot of pitting there that will be easier just to replace.

FTE friends....I really need you on this one!!!
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I just can't locate a frame around here (or parts truck at a reasonable cost or frame condition) to out right buy and do the whole rear section in one piece like you say. Plus, I would not be so confident in it's strength. I know people shorten them that way all the time...but something about it just doesn't feel strong and safe for me.
Shorten a Truck Frame - YouTube
I could only find a Chevy video.
I'm not too concerned about keeping it square and true. I will probably put some cross braces on it before I cut anything, but the approach was to do one piece at a time. As in cut it out, weld it in, move on to the next piece. With this frame its only going to get more rigid as I go.
