Details on E-Fuel

So I'm getting ready for e-fuel. Not so much because I need it but because I want it. I like the idea of a clean valley and easier leak detection mostly. I just want to get it flowing and will continue to upgrade it as I have time and funds. I'm going to use a single SD pump for now and a chopped up stock FPR until I can get an Aeromotive sometime. Then I'll get to maybe a better pump and uprgrading lines. I have some questions before I buy the rest though.

Why do folks use nicer pre-pump units like fuel manager and a napa spin on for post pump? As long as you have the correct filtration at each spot could you just use a spin on at each?

Is an in-filter heater or hand primer pump necassary? I do like the FM screw on see through bowl and think I'd still like to have a water in fuel light too.

I've seen people use anywhere from 20-150 micron pre pump and 2-5 post. What's really needed there? Can a 30 flow as much as a 150?

The filtration is up to you really. A lot of us use 2 micron filters just to get the cleanest fuel possible feeding the injectors. The stock filter is around 20-25 micron, so a 2 or 5 micron will be significantly better than stock.

Thanks man.

So why don't more folks use the cheaper spin on bases and filters pre and post pump? Does it have anything to do with a need for the in-filter heater or hand primer pump? Do you need a heater here in Texas Travis?

Here are most of the parts I used. I'll get a filter pic up shortly.

Nah, you don't need a heater. I haven't had a fuel heater for the last 4 years and haven't had any issues. Also don't need the water in fuel light as long as you keep up with regular maintenance on your filters and drain them. I change my filter every 6000 miles(every other oil change) and never have problems.

I only have to buy one filter as my 100 micron is an Aeromotive inline stainless filter that only has to be taken out, clean, and re-install. So I only have to buy the 2 micron Dahl filters for the water seperator. I like the Dahl, but you could use the cheaper spin on bases and filters both pre and post pump and use some good Baldwin filters or something. A lot of people do that actually. Just make sure of the micron ratings your getting.

You sure about that?

I'm pretty sure the stock filter is around 5 - 7 microns.

There are 2 types of filters/water seperators. One type of water sep. uses a spin on cartrige and has the type of media in it to trap water. The other does not, so they use a different housing/bowl etc to get the water out. That's how I understand it, though I might be technically off.

Nothing wrong with either, IMO, just pick one and go with it. Personally I use the spin-ons, they are cheaper and do a good job. The water sep filters have a drain so they are prettymuch just like the stock filter, IMO.

Hmmm... Guess I read wrong. Not the first time and surely won't be the last!! LOL Thanks for the correct info Jim. Maybe I was thinking about the oil filter??? I think that may be what I was thinking. LOL My bad!!!
