Mechanical Fuel Pump choices

Hi all-

I did a quick search on this, but didn't find anything...

I went to start my truck while it was about -20 here in IA, and it started, but the cold made the fuel pump fail. I am in the process of a 4bbl conversion, and I want to upgrade the fuel pump while I'm at it, even though I understand the stock one will supply a 4bbl sufficiently, at least if the rest of the engine is stock.

I don't need the best there is, so I have been looking at getting a Carter mechanical pump, but don't know if they have a good reputation or not.

Anybody have knowledge of these pumps, or knowledge of what would be a better solution for roughly the same amount of money?

Thanks in advance for any information-

Andy

carter has been making pumps forever, and i wouldn't spend a lot of money on a pump for a stock engine.

Thanks for the reply-

I agree on not spending a lot for a pump on a stock engine, but wanted to "upgrade" because I am planning some engine work in the future that could take advantage of a bigger pump- Nothing radical, but enough to tax the stock fuel system.

I'm still pretty new to Fords, so I am unsure of what products have a good reputation, and which don't-

Thanks again,
Andrew
