Well, I think I've figured out the stuttering... the pump chirps like crazy! It's embarrassing when you're around the Ford haters or in a parking lot and they're all wondering why there's a chicken under the truck! Anyways, I've heard it when the truck stutters and the pump makes a weird noise. My dad said the truck did the same thing when he had it... the pump would chirp and the truck would stutter every now and then. Then one day, it just quit! So, here's what I wanna know:
The stock pump is VERY expensive to get new... and I know some aftermarket ones are cheaper and some are better for about the same price. What's the approx. gph for the stock pump? Are there any better alternatives? I'm planning on doing the in-tank mods as well as removing the quick-disconnects and adding an in-line fuel filter. Thanks guys!
I have the Walbro GSL392. It is a great alternative to the stock pump and will fit directly in its place. You just have to use the insulating sleeve that comes with it and the OEM together, as it is smaller in diameter, but flows more volume. I got mine off Ebay and had a coupon, so it ended up costing me about $86. Regularly around $100. Got mine here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Walbr...Q5fAccessories
I had a comparison chart of the two somewhere, but can't find it right now. IIRC, the High Pressure Walbro flows about 50 gph and stock about 30 gph at 80 psi.
huh, glad you made this post as I think I may be loosing my pump as well as it lately seems to be making a squealing noise every now and again, I suspect my pump is on the same path as yours though atm my truck seems to be running just fine.
oh and BTW, found this on that GSL392 pump... "... Flows 70 GPH at 40 psi..."
I would say definitely a good alternative, going to have to order one...
Edit: I also just emailed clay to see if he has or can get the pump, if so I'd order through him, he may be able to find a better deal. I always ask clay first
Found this too...... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...d=360142120316
the walbro works very well on our trucks but many do have trouble with them..keep in mind they are not diesel rated pumps..so if you do have trouble with one..your out the cost of one..as soon as they find diesel in the pump..the warranty is voided..
Well that doesn't make any sense considering gas is much thinner and less of a lubercant.
So what would you recommend. Another guy recommended the e2236.
the walbro does work for a lot of guy's but at the same time a lot guy's have trouble with them...id stick with stock..you can get 450 HP out of them but it shortens the long life of the pump.. I went with a Fuel lab pump but the whole fuel system needs to be done to run it..the pump have has a adjustable speed..low speed it can push fuel for 600 HP..high speed gets you 1300 HP...
who has had problems with the walbro? mine still works perfect!
not enough guy's on this forum running fuel systems for higher HP so there isn't enough guy's to compare too...why is that?? the stock pump is very reliable....go to PSN and ask or do a search for what pump..ill bet you will be surprised what people say..some there have good luck with the walbro but many more have bad luck and only get a year or less out of one...
