I have a question about rust on my truck. My truck is a 09 Superduty that I ordered from the factory. One of the options I ordered was the Ford mudflaps. I just put a plow on the truck and since the mudflaps are solid I decided to remove them for the winter. Underneath each one the paint has rubbed off and there is now a rusty spot/ bubble. Since the truck is only 2 1/2 years old, and they were a factory Ford option, will or should it be covered under the warrenty? Thanks in advance.
The corrosion warranty only covers rust through. Read your warranty book, it's explained in there. Until it goes all the way though the metal they don't recognize it as a problem.
That's Ford's stance. A dealer that you have a good relationship with might fix it without going to Ford for payment.

yep...Ford Warranty will tell you to bend over and kiss your own rear, but they won't fix it
My 2008 Expy is rusting on the entire roof and in several other spots throughout the vehicle. Ford refuses to fix the issue. Says it has to rust completely through and cause a hole.
Best of luck. I've had my local news station contact Ford, I written letters and I've filed BBB complaints. They don't care and won't fix the issue.
Well I did have a look at the warranty bookinthe last few minutes and this is a direct quote from the book for corrosion coverage. "If corrosion does not cause perforations (holes), and is not the result of vehcle usage and / or airborne materials, the Corrosion Coverage is 36 months or 60,000 km (whichever occurs first)." So in my point of view, my truck only being 29 months old and only having 21,565 km on it I should be covered. After all the mud flaps were a dealer supplied option. There is also a part of the warranty that specifies that Genuine Ford Accessories, (in my case my mud flaps) and any damage to any components damaged by the defective accessory (in my case the paint of my truck) are covered for 36 months or 60,000 km if supplied with the vehicle. I think I should be in the clear.
Well I guess I'll see when I get to the dealer, but its always been my experience that if you have something to back up your claim, it goes a long way. If not when the truck is paid for next August, I'll trade it in. I'd rather take a loss than keep a truck that won't be worth anything in a few years with our climate.
Well I just returned from the dealer. I have an appointement to have the rust fixed on the 20th. I was suprised there wasn't a fight. They looked at it. Said it was covered and set up the appointment. They also said that they would install a plastic film over the area after painting to protect it from rocks. The mud flaps are not going back on though. My Monday has just started off good.
