Errrrrrr...... wow is my luck not going so good. Went out today to get the driveshaft off and all went well except 2 of the bolts (previous owner) are STRIPPED and rounded. How on earth can I get them off? I really would like to get this drive shaft off this truck today if that's possible.
Hacksaw or bolt cutter? Torch? Or use one of those sockets that you use to fit on stripped boltheads.....Sears has them.
Went to Sears a few minutes ago and picked up the "bolt-out" kit. I'll need new bolts which apparently is a dealer item so I have to wait to fix it next week some time.
UPDATE: Changed all 3 back U-Joints on the driveshaft and the vibration is MUCH better although it still exists very remotely upon take-off. From reading, it appears that a little vibration, according to Ford, is perfectly normal. The two U-Joints on the back driveshaft were shot and binded.
Wow! glad you got it figured out. What's the next project?
thanks! sad part is, you already figured me out. I started my next project already which is replacing these 2000 headlights, however, one of the parking lights is not behaving (not working) and I have no idea why. Thinking there is a bad fuse since before the swap the left blinker was blinking rapidly. My super duper light tester (to check positive/ground) doesn't work either. LOL. Murphy's law is taking over today. The great news is that the lights will look SUPERB once I get them in. I'm having to hack up the header panel a bit with the dremel which I don't mind since they aren't in great shape anyway.
P.S. The bolt-out kit turned out to be a life saver!
< Doh! >. I'll do that and fix it, however, is it all one circuit and does the front rely on the back tail light to be working in order to work? I know some circuits work that way hence why I'm asking. Thanks!
My 02 did that when a brake light went out, nothing on that side worked until I replaced it....... I hope yours works out to be the same. If not, Your Mobile now, you can get here

I will figure it out but not messing with it tonight. I've done enough for the day. Thanks again for all the help. I will post pictures up once I get the lights in there. Oh and btw, one of my friends is swapping lifts with me... he has a 3" lift and of course I have the 8" lift. I told him I am not real thrilled towing with this much lift and it turns out he wanted to go higher so it might work out for both of us. Not gonna be for a few weeks before we can do the swap though
3" is what's on my 89. that's enough, believe me. I even pulled a slide in 10'er all over the east coast with that truck. I would be real uncomfertable with an 8" pulling my trailer...... If I could even get my old butt in there, lol

I'm not that old, however, I do know physics a little and that high of a lift is probably not optimal for towing. It looks cool but I went down in tire size as well and already dropped 2" just by going to smaller tire since I knew I would be dropping the truck too
My trailer isn't that heavy, however, it's a very well built car trailer that I'm working to slowly convert over to a toy hauler. Last summer I put the a/c (with heat element). Next up I have to work to get all the wiring in there, windows in the trailer, etc. The goal is to have a decent place to sleep with some creature comforts (ac, heat, fridge, tv). If we need showers well then we'll have to hit the lake or when we're at the campground, we'll just use those facilities. Anyway, the unladen weight of the trailer is approx 5500lbs which I'm guessing high since I don't have the specs here with me. However, it's not light. So I figure 8k (give or take) trailer all loaded up with bikes, food, blankets, gear, etc. The other goal with the trailer is the ability to hook into shore power since I only plan to run my generator when deep woods and no other options.
Anyway, the other mods I plan to do to this truck....... I need to address rust underneath. The truck appears to have pretty heavy rust under the bed which I will have to figure out a plan of attack. I'll also have to thoroughly inspect where the hitch hooks up to ensure where it's attached isn't so rusted that it concerns me. If it does, then, I'll have to address it asap.
Sorry for the length......sometimes it helps for me to think out loud as it helps my plan of attack..
No prob. From the pictures I see, it's mostly surface rust, I'd go to the power wash car wash, and clean it real good. Get some rust inhibitive paint from east wood, and slap it on/in around . They make a spray version too.

From the pictures you're right, however, under the bed is where it's the worst and it appears to be wearing the metal pretty thin. Also the cross beams appear to be getting pretty bad too. I will power wash it and was considering trying to sand, then, putting some type of rust inhibitor.......
