Since the previous owner removed the smog pump and thermactor pipes, I decided to remove that HEAVY alternator/smog pump bracket that mounted the alternator so low. I grabbed a whole setup from a 1975 F100 302 that used a long bolt, spacer, and a dandy little bracket that bolted to the water pump and another to the head. Now my alternator is mounted up high where I can actually get to it, and looks MUCH neater than with that heavy stock bracket. Best of all, I am still using Ford parts, so know one will know it was replaced unless they knew what they were looking for.

That's a much cleaner installation for just an alternator than the smog pump/alternator bracket gives. As said before, that approach is UGLY and just yells that something is missing. I think I'll follow Lariat's lead on Dad's truck.
Thats the way to go. Make more room, looks better, save a little weight. Thanks, Lariet. This is what I'm going to do!!! Now the qustion is, who sells that bracket assy. new?
