show me your alternator bracket

I'm swapping in a newer motor, going from a 75 to a 95 (ish), and the alternator bracket i pulled from the other motor which is originally from newer one i'm installing is not line up the alternator far enough out.

after a bit of searching, i think what i have is a bronco bracket

the major issue is that the alternator is sitting back about 1in. too far.

You have serpentine stuff already, do a 3g Alternator swap and reuse the aluminum bracket. Some wiring (more if Alternator Dash) and here's mine
Unless your going original, I would upgrade to nice low resistance, high torque, and quiet serpentine belt. (edit) It looks like it would be less work than going with V-belts. Oh and FYI, the water pump rotates backwards.

For the serpentine belt set up you need to use the aluminum bracket that came on a EFI 300. Or make or modify one to locate the alt. were it needs to be.

I've got a few of the old stamped steel brackets that came on early carbed 240/300's. I'd be willing to sell you one. They are easier to modify then the cast iron ones.

But if you have access to some steel plate and a welder it's not that hard to make one either.

The one I have is the alt/ac I believe, and it bolts to the side of the block with three bolts. Since moving to Michigan we now kive in an apartment and fabrication is a bit harder to do.

Post up a pick of what you got Fordman.

The bracket you have in the pictures is off a early to mid 80's carbed 300 and it mounted the alt and the air injection pump ( not the A/C ) . It's been a while since I had one so I don't remember if the air pump mounted on top or on the bottom. I believe it was on top.

Your PS bracket has the A/C mount below the PS. That is the EFI set up for A/C. On the carbed engines the A/C compressor sat above the PS pump location.

If you can't do the fab work in your current location my brackets aren't going to help much. They will locate your alt in close to if not the same location as your current bracket. What you'd have to do with my bracket is get a piece of steel plate. Set it up so you can bolt the alt bracket to the plate and then bolt the plate to the block. And position everything so it moves the alt. forward into alignment.

If you want a bolt in deal you'll have to find a EFI 300 ( 87+ ) in the salvage yard and get the alt bracket off it. But I don't know how it will fit with your carbed intake. The EFI bracket mounts the alt on top and the air injection pump or a idler pulley on the bottom half. It's a pretty good sized chunk of aluminum.

Here's the brackets I've got. These aren't all of them.

In this last picture you can kind of see how the alt mounts with these brackets.

The issue is on the serpentine set up the belt is much farther out on the harmonic dampner then it is on the carbed/V-belt engines. So if you are going to use V-belt brackets you will need to move them forward. And that will take some fab work.

My setup has no AC or Smog air pump. This is the belt I used:

Ok the way I see it you need to go ALL serp belt setup or v belt set up no mix-n-match.

As was posted the serp belt also used a water pump that ran backwards from the v belt setup so if going v belt the water pump needs to be changed too.

V belt ALT bracket from my 81 300 six motor it bolts to the side of the block using the 3 bolts.

Yes the air pump does bolt on the top.

To use a 3G ALT you just need to swap the pulleys and space the pulley out with a washer. The 3G ALT mounts in the stock bracket shown.
Because I am running EFI exh manifolds I drilled the bracket so the bolt comes in from the other side. This way I can change the ALT with out needing to remove the bracket from motor.

I've still got some. Give me a day or two and I'll dig them out and see exactly how many I have left.
