If I did that, I would never be able to drive my truck in the winter. It will start without the block heater down to -13 but no colder. Temps below -20 are common here.
I wanted to clean up the area as well as avoid a future leak from the area..and better coolant flow to the oil cooler as the actual heat element is 1 inch wide and sticks 4 inch in. Its also nice to have another drain other then the plactic one on the bottom of rad, the hose faucet can also be used to flush the system.
Have to say that the thought of using it for a flush is pretty cool. It doesn't get that cold here, either but it'll be nice when the GP's get weak but not enough for you to really want to have to tear the truck down to replace them. Either way, great info. What size threads were in the block as well as on the faucet? Any reducers needed?
