Today I set about flushing the junk Ford coolant for some of the red elc stuff.Went looking for some but could only find the premixed stuff, didnt think it was a big deal at the time. But now Im starting to second guess that stupid mistake and was wondering whats the best way to make it work.Of course theres no place open tom,let alone a place that has the concentrate. If I go about a week or so until I find some concentrate, can I just add that to what will be in the truck?
Next question concerns the flush itself,I drained the gold coolant added s quarts of vc-9 flush and distilled water, ran it and drained that.Im now at 24 gallons of distilled water and its still not coming out clear.Im even opening the drivers side block plug everytime after the rad has drained.Do I just keep throwing water at it and eventually itll come clean?
Did you remove the t-stat? If not that's part of your problem.
As far as the coolant, you need to use concentrate to get the proper %. Drain and then add 1/2 of total capacity with concentrate and then top off with distilled water. That compensates for the water that can't be removed.
I believe Napa & O'Rielys are both open Sundays. I have seen Concentrate ELC-1 on the shelf before at both. I know Napa sells Zerex ELC concentrate that is CAT EC-1 rated for around $22 a gallon. Valvoline.com > Products > Zerex > Antifreeze Zerex > Zerex® Extended Life Antifreeze / Coolant
The question would be do they have any on hand. I would get on the horn & check in your area. Or a local International dealer, mine carries both 50/50 & concentrate. This is the concentrate I used myself. Good luck.
Thx Ed,my local Napa isnt open on Sundays anymore. But Im gonna go there during the week and order some concentrate if they dont carry it.Thnaks for the headsup, didnt realize Zerex had there own version as well.
69,yes the tstat is removed at this point.Thx for the help guys
With the t-stat removed you might want to flush with a garden hose. When it's clear then do two flushes with distilled water. Will save you some time and money.
