I have a 81 Bronco with a 300 SIX. I am in desperate need of an under the dash wiring harness. Manual trans, AC, and Carbed. Does anyone know if they have an old on lying around? I cannot find one anywhere around where I live no junk yards or pull a parts have them. Or do you have any advise on the matter?
By under dash, are you talking about the wiring inside the truck? Like, behind the dashboard, goes to the stereo, headlight switch, heater controls, etc.? That might be a really tall order without going to a junk yard. It's also something not commonly just 'sitting around' in someone's garage.
What happened to yours?
You may want to post your question either in the F-150 or Bronco forums, since they're more body specific, instead of engine specific. Best of luck.
I thought you had done a EFI swap in your 81 but it was a long shot to ask you if you had one. Would there be any difference in an AT or MT wiring harness off of a Bronco of that era if I could find one?
Yes, I have tried most junk yards and a pull a part near my house. I think I am going to be able to go up to my parents house for Thanksgiving so I am going to look around there. If I can't find one soon I will try my best to repair the other one.
Mine was a victim of old wires. The wires to the head light switch which en voles many other things got brittle. So after four wheeling in Uwharrie National Park I lost running light and brake lights. Then one day something under the dash started smoking. It was the wire that had lost its insulation and soldiered itself to the frame of the dash messing up countless other wires.
How different is one from a F-150 with a 4.9L from that era? Other then the rear window switch which could be an easy fix
Ouch, sounds like you have quite an under-the-dash mess! Sorry to hear it.
You may have an easier time replacing the wires yourself, and matching them by color.
The wiring harness between an F-150 and Bronco, as far as I know, would be completely identical. They're 99% the same as far as wiring goes, so I imagine all the trucks just have a little clip hanging somewhere for the rear window motor.
On mine, I only used the cast iron exhaust manifolds from an EFI 4.9. It's a performance upgrade. I didn't do anything else with the EFI system and mine's all carbureted.
There shouldn't be much if any difference between an AT or MT and an F150 or Bronco harness. How much sense it makes to swap one thirty year old harness for a different thirty year old harness is another story. It might be easier to just buy some primary wire and break out the soldering iron.
Yes It does seem rare. My dad bought it in 1981 and had it the way he wanted it. MANUAL everything....But the engine locked up in 96 as a project in high school I brought it back in 2004 after rebuilding the engine. It had a bent crank. Dad said it might had something to do with him hauling a John Deer 350D Bull Dozer but he had to make money somehow.

The wiring harness that I have seen look FINE. No problems with the wires. But I am wondering if I can TRULY trace down every little nick and burn that short created. That is another reason I would like to find another one.
