I went to the local pull a part junk yard today and got a wiring harness off of a 1983 ford f-150, 302 (CI),and Auto transmission. I have an 1981 Ford Bronco 300 straight six, and manual trans. The instrument clusters are the same on both trucks. (With gauges but not tach). The reason I need to replace it is bc the head light wires had lost their insulation soldiered themselves to the frame of the dash and burned through a lot of the other wires in the dash.
The harness in that region of the two trucks should be fairly compatible/similar. All of the information that I have on the electrical systems shows that 81-83 are nearly identical. I wouldn't bother doing the entire harness but just stick to the dashboard and the sections of the harness that were damaged if at all possible.
That is the thing. Would be easier just to pull the existing wiring harness on the bronco because I have the dash off and the other wiring harness on hand. A wire that comes from the headlight socket is bare all the way from the socket to the fuse panel. So who knows the damage that had created and I could EASILY miss a nicked wire and it could happen again. I was not very detailed in my first post.
Thank you again This site is the best because of guys like you knowing what they are talking about and you guys actually reply and allow new members to make threads unlike some (FSB) forms. Woops NOT!
