1. I tore down the 352, in my '66 F100, last night. Seems its never had a valve job, (original lock tabs still on bolts). The PO had already broke off two and I added another. Anyway, whats the deal with these non-adjustable rockers? Is it like the late 302s with pedestal mounts? I kept track of push rod location just in case they were different lengths.
2. Whats the chances of me finding a replacement drivers side log? C5TE-xxxxx
3. The bores look good with no ridge that I can feel. Anything else I might want to do while the heads are off?
4. Looks like the intake was leaking oil off the back and over the c6. On SBF, we dump the cork in favor of a bead of RTV. Whats the best way to seal the intake so oil is getting were it shouldn't be?
ty!
FE engines use different length pushrods to compensate for the valve adjustment. For Nascar this was a faster means of swapping out a broken rocker, etc.
How you adjust the valves is outlined in the tech articles on this site.
Most people use RTV instead of the cork. It's really up to you. But I have had more than a couple occasions where the RTV will blow out in the back and leak.

The valve stems are supposed to be a certain height and this is set when you get a valve job done, but on older ones you can either convert to adjustables or get different length rods.
DSC motorsports offers stock adjustables for a good price as well as ductile iron ones from www.jegs.com, both require ball/cup rods instead of the ball/ball rods you have now.
You should be able to find the log at a junk yard for cheap.
I used the cork to seal the intake but I clean it with acetone and put extra at the corners and haven't had a problem. It's not really a pressure area, with proper PCV you should actually be under vac within the crankcase. I'd just make sure it's very clean.
If you're not having a valve job done, I'd atleast replace the seals, they tend to crack and leak.
I ordered a rv cam, new lifters, and timing chain. I will be using the truck around the ranch and probably not very much.
Now, to sell the '96 F250 PS..
