I was wondering you some others are doing about this. I have an FE block so the dipstick goes through the oil pan. Initally after putting the motor together, i was unsure what to do, as the headers looked like they were in the way. Right now i have a sawed off dipstick just to plug the hole but not knowing the oil level makes me worry especially with the rpm i like to turn.
Tube bender will adjust the tube to fit between the headers. No dipstick is asking for trouble. In my '69 Torino Cobra race only car with the 428CJ, I didn't run one, but I had a sight tube in the side of the deep sump oil pan and just a glance under the motor told me what I need to know. The tube was put in so we could monitor the oil level in the pan at different RPM on the dyno and not have to worry on the track. That system wouldn't work for me today, cause it would take me a half hour down and a half hour back up. Damn the floor gets low every month.
on my 390 the dipstick goes into the block, but it wasn't going to fit right with headers. I got a dipstick tube out of a 3.0L aerostar and modified the mounting bracket. The stick is out of a 3.8L tarus. Works good ....
My dipstick too goes through the block. I just bent it slightly and bolted it to the headers just like the old manifolds. You must have somethin' funky?
