A little backround ! Last week I had a F5 DP chip put in my 01 dually ! The truck came with a bunch of Banks hard parts and chip and Trans Command shift module. Well the truck was very hard shifting on the ride home and it def looks now like the TCom was def interfering with the DP trans tunes! Got my bypass plug yesterday and installed and bypassed the TCom !! MARKED improvement!!! shifts were firm but not the neck snapper it was! Going to be hooking up the fiver in a couple of weeks so I will be getting some haul time on it. If it needs tweaking will pull it out this spring when I get home and send it in!! But if it goes like it is now we have it made man. Tried out the 60 tow and seems like gobs of power and and I even got to roll a little coal in 80 E ! WOOOW!!!! I thank all for your help and suggestions!!
I have the TComm in my EX,and haven't had any issues with the DP shifting hard. Maybe Jody tuned mine different. Glad ya got it working the way you want it though.
Well all I can say with it hooked up the shifts were ROCK hard !! With the plug installed it feels pretty normal now!!! I am a happy camper!!! In the spring when I get back I am going to try and remove the Tcom module and harness and put it and the Ottominder up for sale!
Same here ! mine came with the intercooler 4 in exhaust and BigHead wastegate and Gauge set! There's nothing wrong with those parts so they stay!! Thinking of putting on a fresh air intake though ! Liked the way it sounded on my 99 ! Speaking of sound the other day a guy came into my buddys car lot with a 05 6.0 that sounded like a jet turbine running!! I had to ask what the hell he had that made that much noise!! He said it was straight piped! My god it sounded like a 747 taxiing for takeoff!
This is good to know since I plan on getting a DP when I get back next year and everything on my truck is Banks. Just wish I knew about this forum before I bought the Banks.
Rob ! I did not think you could get better than Banks! Let me tell ya son with DP your truck will be "Born Again"!!! I now see why everybody raves about it!! That dually will litem up son! I'm sold!!
The DP tow tunes are awesome. I had Jody soften up my shifts a little, maybe it depends on the condition of your tranny. I "think" mine is in pretty good shape...hopefully it won't let me down some day.
I have the HD4R100 tranny and the shifts are very different from stock. I have the F6 DP and it's nice getting the altered tunes by email and just plugging in the laptop. The F6 is the only way to go if you ever-ever anticipate the need for a change in your tune(s) or tune list.
Something as innocent-sounding as DP Tuner economy tune can really cook your tires - without the coal..
wow holy dead thread, so i can only hope for a response but i have the SAME setup, transcommand and dptuner and i ALSO HAD THE SAME HARD SHIFTS!!! What do i need to do to bypass the transcommand? I want to le the chip do its own thing and with what you said it should be a lot better!? Please let me know
Holy cow is back from the dead thread files!!! I believe I bit the bullet and got the bypass plug from Banks. Was for the easiest way to go ! no hassle. After my first haul to Fl with the fiver the tow tunes were great! But after we took the fiver off, the 80E for DD the shifts were still hard and seem to have the 60T shift profile. After we got home I emailed DP to see if they would setup 80E with the stock shift profile. Well did not take long to get it back and boy what a diff. I had gobs of go and no sore neck. Now when I get on the flat land with the rig I shift to the 80E . From a stop I start in 60T get rolling in high gear and shift to 80E. Pulls so much nicer and no all the hard downshifts. I keep a close eye on the EGT but so far has been right on the numbers. One of these days I want to find out the diff between the 80E and the 80T.
The 80T will down shift at 48mph and upshifts from 3-4 at about 52-54mph depending on throttle position. I think there is some difference in TC apply as well. And it sounds like there is some difference in SOI as well.
Dan ! what your describing is what the chip felt like when I got it. Never tried to tow in it at the time cuz it was all new to me. But I wanted the 80E for a DD tune. After DP changed out the profile that's what I got ! smooth shift and no neck pain. The wife also very happy! So if that is the diff I think I will keep it just where it is. Thanks
