Well, I talked to the lady who is selling the F-250 4x4 and the 5h wheel trailer. And found out her truck is a '90, with the 460 engine and auto trans. She says it only has 65,000 original miles. The only problems it has are the electric window motors don't work, and because it has been sitting outside for over a year it is starting to show some rust. It is a light blue/grey color, and has both a 5th wheel hitch, goose neck, and a receiver hitch under the rear bumper. She also said she bought 3 new tires for it, replacing the spare, and two on the truck.
The trailer is a 1990, and is the old style with aluminum over wood, not fiberglass like the newer ones. She stated the toilet needs replacing, and the refrigerator needs replacing (an exact replacement is $1,400 according to her!). I will be able to see it next weekend. One interesting thing she mentioned about it is that it has double beds up top over the 5th wheel hitch area, instead of a queen or king size bed.
However, her husband has a '89 F-250 4x4 with a 7.3L diesel and a 5 spd manual trans he said he would sell me in place of his wife's 460 powered F-250. It is currently in the shop getting new glow plugs, injectors, two new batteries, an alternator, and the wiring harness from the batteries to the starter. His is a two tone brown. The only problem with it is the clear coat is starting to come off. I did not ask him about the mileage, but the fact that it is a diesel, and has a 5spd man trans is what got me interested. It too is setup to tow the 5th wheel, and both trucks have the dual gas tanks, but he says his truck gets 15 mpg without the trailer, and 12 mpg towing the trailer. Something the 460 truck could never attain. He also told me he used it to tow a single wide mobile home sitting on 6 flat tires out of a field and around to the front of the property. 'nuff said, I want it!
So Joe, you can stop showing me ads of diesel powered trucks now. The husband's truck (who happens to be named Joe as well) is here locally, along with the trailer, so I can see them both on the 3rd of December. I will take my camera and get pics of both the truck, and the trailer. They say they are using the trailer as a storage room now, but I can still get an idea of what it looks like.
Good Morning NorCal,
Hope you all had a great Turkey Day...I know I sure did. Back to the salt mines today (actually the shop) Hopefully to finish some house repairs, and maybe begin to remove the passenger side spindle on the 49.
Have fun today, whatever you do.
I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving. I ate way to much!
With today being Black Friday & all, I better get a move on or I'm gonna miss out on all the good stuff. TTYL...
Anyone else going to tackle the crowds today?
Nighteyez , I hope it works out for you & you get the diesel there, G
fridges aren't that expensive any more.........toilets are easy to replace too
That is good to know, as I do eventually intend on living in the trailer instead of paying rent to a landlord the rest of my life. I don't think it has AC as she said it does not have a generator, so those are two thing I know I will have to buy. She stated the toilet was easy to replace, but was concerned about the cost of the fridge. Getting the diesel also means I can use it to tow home the F-100 from Nevada, instead of having Joe take me in his. Although, I may still do that for the company on the trip.
Happy Black Friday FTE. I have no plans of going anywhere today. I will play it safe and stay home. I never go anywhere on black Friday. I don't like crowds, rude people or being crushed to death, just to save a few $$$ on a toy or item that may or may not work when it is opened a month from now. just my .02
