C-6 question?

C-6 question?

I had someone tell me that I could use a 2x4 C-6 transmission form my 4x4 truck? Can the transfer case mount to the back of it? I was under the impression that they were different?

I have a 351w with currently an AOD and it's bad, I want to put a C-6 in it now.

The case is the same but if requires a tailshaft out of a 4x4 and 4x4 extension housing. The 2wd tranny has to be disassembled to swap tailshafts.

Ahh right I forgot about the bellhousings. I was thinking 351m, thanks for catching that, I generally try to avoid babbling nonsense.

Why wouldnt you just rebuild the AOD? To each thier own but overdrive is pretty nice, and once rebuilt the AOD is a very reliable transmission.

The costs that I have been given to repair are around $1,500 and up. I can replace it a lot cheaper.

you could always check craigslist for a 4x4 c6 if you want to save the time of replacing parts

Yes a standard rebuild can run as high as 1500. In my neck of the woods not only is finding a small block 4x4 C6 going to be a wild goose chase but theyre going for around 400 for a core and 900 for used. then after all of that, you have no idea what kind of shape the transmission is in. This was about 5 years ago i was shopping for a tranny so prices may have went up since then. C-6 cases are getting alot harder to come by.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly is wrong with the AOD? More often than not auto transmissions have something small and inexpensive wrong with them and people assume its junk.

Once it shifts into (I think) it's third or overdrive I just hear the engine rpms go up, but the truck goes nowhere. It seems to do OK in the first two gears. I have checked the fluid and it's good.
