My girlfriends dad told us we could run his work truck that he was sending to scrap in the rough truck contest at the local fair next year. Its major problem is that the c6 tranny is blown. I want to buy a cheap c6 to last through a few runs on the track, aside from BB vs SB c6s what else do I need to know. The truck is an 88 250hd 351W 4x4, will all years c6 work? Does it have to be from another 4x4 or will a 2wd work and what is involved in the change? Is the t case divorced or mated (i've never been under the truck)? Any other problems that you guys know I might hit let me know. Thanks. Jared
the 4x4 C6 has a shorter tail section... Shouldn't be more than a couple hundred for a rebuilt C6 from a variety of sources if you install yourself. (then you'd have something to sell off from the carcass when you're done!)
If you are just looking for a scrap C-6, then one from a bronco all the way to an F350 will work. The only stipulation is that it has to be for the windsor block, and the transfer case mount has to have the circular 6-bolt pattern with a seventh hole for the location pin. If you are just doing a 2 wd tranny then you will need the driveshaft and delete the transfer case.
FYI-All the Ford Light duty truck, e.g. series F-350 and lower, uses the married transfer case to the transmission since the 78-79 series of trucks.
Thanks for all your help guys. I located one on craigslist for a windsor 4x4 from an '84 I think I will buy for $125. milwaukee i plan on parting the truck out before scrapping. I know for sure I am taking the modular style aluminum wheels with 33s .
