AMP Research Powerstep

AMP Research PowerStep™, BedStep®, Bed X-Tender™, BedStep 2™ - ElectricStep - AMP Research In-Stock Shipping Center

A friend I hadn't seen for awhile came by the other day, driving the 2010 F150 Lariet he got the end of last season. He had these electrically operated steps installed on his truck. They were hooked into wiring in the door. The link above is the company that makes them.

He was very pleased with them, and they seemed well made and functional. However, I live in heavy snow country, and there are times in the winter, after driving in slushy conditions, that you get a massive frozen build-up along the bottom of your vehicle. That would render these temporarily useless. And I wonder if the motors would be damaged if they were activated by the door opening, but were frozen in place.

Also, I have this bad attitude about "something else to go wrong" and would rather opt for a simple, stationary step bar.

If you go to the website and click on the Amp Research BedStep, you'll see a really cool step to climb into the bed, which he also had installed. Now this I really like.

It goes at the rear corner of your truck, and is easy to activate out, or back in (it's mechanical). I'd rather have this over the Ford optional tailgate step, as it's a simple, but well made unit, has less to go wrong with it, and I imagine the Ford unit would cause limitations in installing aftermarket bed liners. Any opinions?

Hope some of you find this info useful.

Did you ever end up getting the electric steps? I've been looking at them off and on for some time and have the same concerns as I live in Minnesota. Just wondering if you gave them a try and what issues you've had. I also like to keep it simple, but between the looks and neat factor these really hold my interest.

If you did purchase them, did you find anything better than $1000+ price for them. They seem to be a little too proud of them for my cheap a$$ taste.

I am on my second Platinum. I had 2010 and traded for 2011 Platinum. They come with the power running boards. I live in Iowa, also a snowy and icy state. I have had snow and slush build up several times and never have they ever failed to open and close. I think they are designed to be able to open and close with ice buildup. I had also thought about that and the dealer assured me that he had never had a complaint. I have had no problems what-so-ever.
