Hello guys, Iam having problems starting after my truck has been sitting for awhile. Around 10 months ago I had my ficm replaced along with new batteries.Last time at the dealership I had them check the batteries and they were good. The truck runs well after it has been driven and starts no problem.Glow plugs maybe any ideas? Thanks
What you describe is stereotypical FICM, despite the fact that it's pretty new. I'd suggest that you check the output voltage on the FICM to see what it is producing. A detailed writeup can be found on ficmrepair.com on the FAQ page. The 6.0 tech folder has an excellent write-up as well.
Low voltage is high on the list of FICM killers, but heat and vibration aren't helping either. The Ford warranty is 12 months, so if you got your replacement module from there, you'd be covered. Longer and shorter warranties are available from various suppliers, so you'll want to check your paperwork to see what your warranty is.
Of course, all of this said, if your glow plugs are non-functional, you'd have cold starting issues as well. They are pure resistance (think of toaster coils). When they fail, they fail open.
The FICM voltage is an easy test. I'd do that just to get it out of the way.
Failed GP's should give a cel or at least a dtc. Have you checked for codes. Agree with checking the ficm voltage also. Could also be stiction. Are the oil changes up to date and are you using factory filters? What are the ambient temps and what weight oil are you using?
I get all my service done at ford,(oil/filters)will do the ficm check as I agree it seems like the same issue as before. Thanks for the tips I like to be a bit informed before they start replacing parts. What is a good scan tool?

A cheap and easy scan tool that also allows monitoring is the ScanGauge II. If you want more functionality (albeit at a price), use the Edge Insight CTS.
Think also about migrating to a 5W40 synthetic to help in those cold mornings.
