Smile ADDING FUEL ECONOMY COMPUTER

I just purchased a 2005 Ford F350 Diesel Crew Cab XLT LWB 4WD. It is loaded with everything as the Lariat except the white gauges and the trip computer/economy features. I know the previous years had the overhead console, but I believe in this year it was manufactured into the instrument cluster. I was interested in adding that to my instruments. Can anyone tell me is that feature actually in the instrument cluster and if so can a module be changed to add that feature? I know in a lot of the newer cars those features are built into the stereo/security systems. I looked on the Ford parts.com website and couldn't find a specific module or part. Any help appreciated.

Put a Lariat cluster into the truck and the 3 associated buttons

Check to see ifthe wiring is there. If not, impossible swap

Cluster will have to be programmed at Dealer. But is a very easy swap

Have you looked at getting a scangauge? Does the mpg stuff, plus its a great gauge source.

scangaugeII is awfully nice, punched in the mess of a code and now get trans temp along with fluid temp, avg and instant mpg as my normal. Was begging for the last .1 mpg avg on the way home tonight coasting into the driveway, had to settle for 12.9.

It has also been a great tool in the Honda minivan on trips, just takes a couple minutes to change it over if that.

Not built-in styling though.

You have the 6.0L... you need the gagues anyway. A SC works, but I think the screen and backlighting sticks out really bad in the truck. If you want a clean look that doesn't stick out as much to match your Lariat interior, get an Edge Insight CTS or Edge Insight CS and put it on a dash pod. The Insight CTS or CS will show instant and average MPG, in addition the everything else you should already be watching. Investing in the ability to watch your coolant and oil temps, plus FICM voltage, battery voltage, and a few other things, can drastically reduce your chances for engine problems and expensive repairs. The CTS does all this out of the box, and with the right accessories (that the Scanguage can't be upgraded for), you can watch other important things like fuel pressure and exhaust temps.

You should really read these threads:

Interesting but does it cost $159? I have a little 5.4L and that might be overkill. Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have it though.

Edge markets the Insight CTS on their website as being for diesels, but sells what looks to be the same box of parts as the Evolution CTS programmer for gassers, so I don't know for ceratin if the Insight would work on a gas engine, but I imagine Edge could tell you if you called.

As for the cost... I'm willing to pay more to get a screen that doesn't make the resolution on a TI-83 look like HDTV. I appreciate the expandable functionality of the SC as a diagnostic tool, but I don't want to have to look at it all the time.

I'm a function over form kinda guy. Either way both work. The Insight CTS is a very cool and necessary component on a diesel rig I would assume. I like the install on your truck it looks very clean.

Thanks I'll check that one out. I like the look of how the Edge blends with the Ford dash but it is a pretty basic programmer.
