Instrument Cluster Swap

I have a 2004 Expedition without the message center. It has the boring, plain instrument cluster, and I want to swap in a newer cluster out of a 2006. I have a few questions about that.

If it has the message center (Which I am not sure that it does), will I still be able to see my mileage/trip odometer?

Is the mileage stored in the computer, or is it stored on the cluster itself?

Also, would it be plug and play or would I have to swap some wiring around? Thanks in advance.

it should be a simple swap, but a dealer has to program it to the vehicle. probably looking at at least $100 there. i went with white face gauges on my 03(should be same as yours).
