Anybody notice their truck getting noisier? What I mean is, is your truck sounding more like diesel now than when it was new? My truck is at about 16k miles and for the last couple thousand it goes from it's quiet normal self to sounding like my last 6.0 and then back to quiet. It does all the time and changes back and forth frequently almost as if there is a toggle switch being thrown back and forth. Is there a system on the truck that is intended to suppress engine noise? Seems like heard there was somewhere. I'm thinking a sensor may be out or some other reason may be causing this. Others than the back and forth of the volume the truck runs fine. Thoughts/info?
Yep, mine does this same thing.
Overall it's louder but then there are the times you describe where it clatters much louder from 2 seconds up to 10 seconds sometimes.
More often over the past several thousand miles.
I'm around 22,600 right now.
Normal as far as I know but 720Deere suggested keeping an eye on the 6.7L bucking thread. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...7-bucking.html
Hey kper? Does the edge tell you if the EGR valve is open or closed? Any EGR circulation values? I always think that this change in sound is related to that but have no proof, just a thought.
Mine is louder at 18,000 miles than it was when new for sure. I always thought I was just imagining it, but I know my 6.0 was somewhat more quiet when it was new. Of course after tuning it and straight piping it, there was always good argument that the extra noise was not the engine itself. They gain a little noise over time as items wear and tolerances increase. Of course there has also been some speculation that Ford uses a graphite additive in the initial oil to make them quieter. I've never seen any proof of that, but I guess it sure wouldn't help sales if they were nice and quiet during the test drive!
Another area that was causing intermittent noise problems was the (gasp!) HPFP. There is a TSB out there about HPFP clatter at times. As I recall this was only on early build trucks and I don't think I have ever heard it on my truck. Really I believe that anything with the 400/800 flash or later shouldn't have the HPFP clatter.
In addition on our 6.7 trucks the fuel timing on injection varies, constantly which i believe is alot of it.I have had the same on mine, mine is most noticable after being on highway awhile and then getting off on exit, sometimes sounds like a good ole 7.3.Now this has done it on 2 2011's ive had.plus in a loaner truck done the same thing.
Mine is not any louder at 10K miles. I have always noticed that under load at lower RPMs, clatter is louder. And when cruising or very light throttle, there is no clatter, just a constant hum.

It doesn't appear so (Edge values).
Rumor has it they're working on additional PIDs but I'm unsure what those are.
The list provided by Edge when they released the current update was:
Ambient Air Temp, Accel Pedal Position, Barometric Pressure, Battery Voltage, Corrected Speed, Dist. Between Regens, Dist. Since DTC Clear, Dist. Since Regen, DPF Pressure, DPF Soot Mass, DTC Count, EGT Post DPF, EGT Pre DPF, EGT Post Turbo, EGT Post SCR/Pre DPF, Engine Coolant Temp, Engine Load, Engine Oil Temp, Engine RPM, Engine Run Time, Fuel Level, Fuel Rate, Gear with Reverse, Gear with TCL, Intake Air Temp, Manifold Abs Pressure, Mileage Coach, MPG Instant, MPG Average, Nox PPM, Regeneration Status, Reductant (Urea) Level, Time 0-60, Time 1/4 mile, Torque, Torque Solenoid Pressure, Trans Temp, Turbo Boost
720Deere, I can't believe you brought that word in here (HPFP). LOL.
Mine has gotten louder as well, I think I really noticed it after the second oil change. I did them at 5,000 then about 12,500. I though maybe the oil since it wasn't synthetic, so next time I put in full synthetic and it's still just as loud. Not "loud" BTW, but louder than new, it's about where I like it, loud enough to hear a little rattle outside but if your driving it's quieter than my V10 was, but I did have a 70 series Flowmaster (that's the quiestest one).
