Is this normal??

Hello everyone! I'm back for some more of your advise.

When my truck sits at idle my RPM's jump about 2 or 3 hundred, maybe even less. You can hear the idle change but really can't see it move on the tach. Once I hit the accelerator everything is fine and the truck still runs great. I'm just curious if this is a symptom of some greater problem heading right at me. I've almost convinced myself that it's a sensor going bad or something to do with the injectors. My truck has 83,000 miles on it, new oil, and fuel filter. No diagnostic codes are stored. Heck maybe this is normal and I just haven't noticed it before. Thanks for your help!

Bill

Do you hear a click at the same time? Could be your AC cycling on and off.

My '96 does the same thing. Runs perfect otherwise. I'll be reading the replies on this one.

No I don't hear any clicking. Also it doesn't do it all the time. It happens about 75% of the time. I think it's been doing this for several months but I really didn't pay any attention to it until 3 or 4 days ago when my stereo quit working. With no noise maker all I could hear was the purr of that diesel.

That's all part of the programming from Ford to help prevent wet stacking. Yes, it's normal and you have nothing to worry about. The older trucks like mine don't have this feature.

Mine did the same thing about a year ago, it drove me nuts. We found that the ICP (injector control sensor) sensor was in the begining stages of dying. Replaced it and no problems since.

Is the ICP something you can buy from an international dealer? If so does anyone have the international part number and an idea of how much it cost?

You can, just ask for an ICP sensor for a Powerstoke or t444e motor about $100 (the Ford dealer has them readily available on the shelf for $180)
