THIS LINK DOES NOT WORK, AT LEAST FOR ME IT DIDN'T.
They work for me.
The information in this thread is combining requirements from different certifications (for CA). There are some lower requirements but all I was pointing out is that the:
- endorsement is a knowledge test
- the permit has a fee and medical questionnaire along with the knowledge test
- the license requires pre-trip and safety inspections, a skills test, and a driving test
I'm afraid of 70 year olds who dont know how to drive/tow.
I doubt if stats exists, but I suspect that you cannot find stats to back up any claims that folks over 70 cause (or are even involved in) more accidents than any other demographic. Statistics do however prove resoundingly that distracted driving is THE LEADING cause of accidents, period. When was the last time you saw an old man texting while driving?

It is illegal to text and drive yet I see everyone doing it. They get a 3 count before I honk my horn for them to go after the light turns green. Happens frequently. I also frequently receive a "friendly" gesture with their hand too. Don't care...get off your phone, pay attention to the road, and go.
I am sure that is a glut of the accident statistics. But the rise of stupid people and teens/early 20's that have grown up with a cell phone in their hand don't negate the accidents of those with reduced focus and reaction time. I would say "elderly" but there are plenty of those that aren't of an advanced age that suffer from this as well. Wandering out of their lane, running red lights, and other unsafe maneuvers (merging, cutting over 2 lanes while braking to make your exit, pulling out of parking lots without looking, etc.) contribute to the statistics as well.
The last time I renewed my driver's license I was behind a person of "advanced age" that failed the vision test (miserably) twice. The DMV employee told them "don't worry about it", passed them, and sent them over to get their picture taken for the driver's license. See previous paragraph.
