The banks cooler is no upgrade, it does the same thing and will gain you nothing over a 6.0 cooler besides a lighter wallet and a little time saved as you won't have to fab as much.
It will gain you no power, just let you be able to use it more since it keeps the exhaust temps down. If you go to stage one injectors or bigger is when you really notice how much affect the intercooler has.
Well, my plan was to go with larger injectors anyway, and I can't really increase my chip any higher when I'm pulling because my EGTs were increasing too quickly. So, basically what you're saying is thay the banks priced at 1,437 is cheaper than going a 6.0 powerstroke intercooler?

Yea sounds like you are lookin at the same mods as me. I have the 6pos in now and have gauges on the way but i know i am gonna need the cooler. I called a local salvage yard and they want 125 -200 for a used 7.3 super duty after cooler and then i would just round up neccesary pipes and boots and spider. The guy said there are two different types of IC's, one for catalitic equiped rigs and one for non. Just curious if anyone knows what the diff was, also wondering what is the best tubing kit to use?
Yeah, I have a tymar intake, superchip, 4 inch exhaust (except the downpipe 3"), and I really want to get an intercooler so that I can benefit from getting larger injectors. I just wanted to know the best route for an intercooler.
No, its a lot cheaper to do it yourself, 4-500 bucks you can put a setup together. Check out this thread to give you an idea what to do. Lots of mod threads in there.
Hardest thing can be finding an early 99 spyder, or you can mod one out of your stock ypipe if you're good at fabbing https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...nfo-links.html
You can buy tubing kits, I don't have a link though. If you want to do your own, 7.3 pipes are easiest to use compared to 6.0 ones. Some pipes are aluminum, so if you go that way make sure you get ones that aren't unless you have a way to weld aluminum. I bought one for each side from a 7.3 and one extra one to use as a donor piece to cut up and make everything fit. One of the tubes I got was aluminum and I had to put a boot in to connect the aluminum piece and the aluminized steel one. Clay at riffraff has all the necessary boots and clamps I think. I've never heard of different intercoolers for a cat, maybe he's smoking something??
I'm for sure going with that route now that you've said that. I just wanted to know if there was much difference with banks or just going with a 7.3/6.0 intercooler. Now that I know, now it's time to do some modifications
The banks will mainly just take more boost pressure and probably flows a little better. For most apps its not nessesary. But keep in mind if you do one day step up performance an aftermarket cooler. Banks spearco and a couple others will direct fit what you put in either 7.3 or 6.0.
I've read that installlation of an intercooler (properly done) can increase power by 5% plus. Because the intercooler makes the intake air more dense, but cooler does that affect how diesel burns. I know in a gas engine the cooling effect prevents detonation.
The reason I ask is my 7.3 is a 95 and has no intercooler. I am wondering how much added power I could get from it.
Hey thaks Fordman! I finally got all my gauges from UPS, so I will hopefully begin to install them tonite! I like how the ISSPRO gauges they have the connector on the back, my AutoMeter does not so you have to cut the wires to get the gauge out or just make your own quick connect.

Well i got my gauges in last nite. The work nicely and are very easy to read. Everything went smoothly, i ended up just welding 1/8 female onto intake Y for boost sender. Hardest part was tapping into fuse block for dash lights and keyed power.
