Carter fuel pump concerns...

Question for all you Carter diesel fuel pump owners out there. I am wondering how NOISY these things are supposed to be. I had to replace OEM pump a few years ago. Ive always heard good things about Carter fuel pumps, so thats what I bought. I installed it and it sounded like the bearings were ready to check out. I pulled it off, swapped it out and got the same noise from the new one. I have been living with this noise for the last couple years. Just ouf of curiosity and irritation I called the mfg. today and they said to talk to someone who has experience with this pump. So I am wondering who on this great forum has replaced their failed OEM pump with a Carter aftermarket pump and if they have experienced any whinning or grinding noise that can be heard over the running 7.3 DIESEL engine?!?!!

Thanks all!
Aaron

Carter

I have used carter pumps in my boats and never found them to be noisy. Usually can't tell when they are on.

Thats what I thought too! Ive used Carter IN-TANK pumps, but never a frame rail mounted pump. This thing sounds like its ready to scatter and pass thru to my injectors!!

Red face

I finally was able to record my fuel pump in action and put it on you tube. Lets see what you guys think... MOV001.MOD - YouTube
I was in the process of doing an oil change with the truck on a hoist therefore I did not have the engine running, Please let me know your thoughts.

The aftermarket Carter pumps are be mounted to a steel plate with isolator donuts (small rubber washers). That makes a big difference in how much noise/vibration is transmitted to the vehicle. If this is an OEM replacement, then it may mount in an OEM-like fashion, and not the way the aftermarket-Carter style pumps mount.

All motor driven pumps will be loud - yours sounds louder than some of mine, but not out of whack. You could buy a new one and swap this one out and keep it for a spare?

This thing is easily heard over the engine running down the road. This is the second Carter pump I put on here. The one I had on here before this one was louder than this one. I claimed a warranty thinking there was a problem with it and replaced it with the one that is on there now (the one in the video). I'm less than impressed with it and I'm just wondering if the Bosch pump from RiffRaff is quiet like the OEM.

The Bosch pump we sell is the stock OEM pump, just so you know.
