This has nothing to do with my truck but I figured here is where all the knowledge resides. Anyway, I have a 98 Taurus with almost 150 kmi and the fuel pump has gotten kinda loud. What is the life expectency on a fuel pump? I don't figure it'll last forever because I know electric motors just don't but I'm wondering if this fuel pump is about at the end of it's rope.
Yes as said it varies a lot, just put a fuel pump in the wifes explorer. Found it had the original pump in it. Just a hair under 230k on it when it died, still pumped. just week.
The fuel pump in my 89 listed below makes a whining noise below 1/4 a tank, has for the last original pump as far as i know....has made the noise for the last 25000 miles ive had the truck miles...this normal?
My 2016 failed at about 45K. While drving back from a 500 mile trip, it ran rough, loss of power, etc., just after a near complete fill up. We drained some water (or so I thought) and drove off. About 20 minutes later, same thing. Replaced both filters, repeat. I flushed the tank, replaced the filters and it ran up a 7% grade towing my goosenck with no problems. Three days later, it died and would not start. Anyway....The truck had an extended warranty, so, I wasn't particularly worried. I didn't know what was wrong, so I had it towed to my servicing dealer. I also spied a 2020 in the lot, spoke with the sales manager and gave him details about the reason for the tow and signed some papers for the new truck.
Turns out the pump failure wasn't under warranty. The dealer (via the service manager) sorta implicated me because 'he could see the gasoline in the tank sample'. The scientist part of me said no way can one determine what chemical is/isn't there...it must be done by analysis.
My insurance company sent a rep; the rep sent a fuel sample off to a lab. Results came back as nothing in the tank except diesel.
Needless to say, I do not trust that shop super for any reason.
Shoulda been under the 6.7 forum.
