cool, so doing studs with cab on wouldn't be that hard. I had written this project off because I wasn't in the mood to get my A/C evacuated because of that box.
if I can simply pull the cover and leave the freon charge in...yeah, I'm getting me some studs at tax time

From what I have read the studs on the passenger side towards the rear need to be in the holes in the head before you install the head. Then once you have the head on the block you can screw the studs in and continue from there.

My post from when I did the HG's on my Ex. Nothing about this is easy, but for a DIYer in less than optimum working conditions (driveway) it's about the only way.
ok thanks I thought it was possible not to have to mess with the A/C Freeon
I know Lots do it and Let the freeon out and just refill it but if you dont vacuum the system the A/C not the same It just dont get as cold as it used to after they do it
I think this is a hangup for lots of folkks they just dont want to mess with the A/C
Maybe this has been answered but I know on some engines people can take off the headbolts and thread in head studs one at a time without pulling the heads. I'm guessing its not possible on the 6.0....

oh yes it can be done some have done it
you need to pick it up pull moter mounts and drop it down far enough to get the studs it
The BIG Issue with it is checking the heads and changing the head gaskets out
I guess you could say kinda a Hack Job that way
but some have done it and are problem free that I know of the tuck would need to be running good before
Yeah my truck is fine right now... but I really want to do head studs. the way its looking though, I'll just wait till I can afford the bulletproof egr delete and oil cooler and I'll have half the engine pulled apart anyway and I will just do em all now.
Just a side note for everyone that is planning on replacing the bolts with studs and no new gasket. My heads showed signs of leaks all through the head some were almost about to blow. There was light pitting all over. Be carefully studs only do so much
