I just got a 2004 f-150 STX 4x4. It has floor shifter for the 4 wheel drive. I can shift it into 4x4 low and that light will come on but I can not get it to go into 4x4 hi when I try to slide the shifter in place the light will flash on but I can not keep it on. Am I doing something wrong?
I don't have the floor shifter as the upper models have a dial...but shouldn't the shifter go into 4hi as the first choice? Also 4low requires the truck to be in neutral to engage 4low.
Ahh ok gotcha. The way you described it made me think that you could go to 4low first. As for the 4hi...it could be a shift solenoid or something related. Can you hear the transfer case attempting to engage?
Well I picked up the truck yesterday and it was used as is and I should have checked before I bought it but hindsight is 20 is 20 and I was stupid. The good thing is I called the dealer ship today and they said bring it back and they would check it out. So hopefully they will fix it. Reading through some of the threads I think it could be the solenoid.
Talked to the dealership today and the problem was with the light it was shifting into 4x4hi the light was just not staying on they fix it and I pick up the truck when I get back in town on Friday
I konw this thread is old, but i didnt want to start another thrread. My truck started to do this the other day, but i have the electronic swtich on the dash. What did they find on your truck. Thanks.
