06 f150 FX4, I have been having trouble with getting key out of ignition for a while until I realized the button on floor shifter was not working right, had to pull on it after putting shifter in park in order to get key out of ignition. Problem is today I may have pulled on the button too hard, now it doesnt depress (sticks out further than it should) and therefore could not get shifter into gear until I removed console covers and pressed gear shift lever at base of shifter.....but it was real difficult to get it to shift out of park. Once I got home I tried to put in Park with no success, button on shifter will not depress and gear shifter lever now does not work. I had to leave key in ignition, shifter in gear with parking brake on. Does anyone know what has happened????? HELP!!!
It sounds like the spring is missing you should be able to reassemble it if you get a new parts for it. I have taken mine apart before and the button had a spring behind it that let it depress and the come back. When you pulled it out you most likely lost the spring. You should be able to get a new one from a dealership or maybe a parts store not sure on the second.
