I have a 2000 F-350 with the V-10 and a floor mounted shifter for the transfer case. (Where they all should be). My problem is that sometimes when I go into 4x4 the light wont go on. If I then go into Low range the light will come on for high range. Sometimes when it is back into 2Hi the 4x4 light will stay lit. This doesn't always happen and more often than not it only happens when going into Low range that the Low light will not light. It will stay lit with only the 4x4 light lit. Is it just a dirty sensor on the shifter? How does this sensor actually know where the shifter is? This truck is used in mud frequently and just being able to look at the dash to know if it is in 4x4 or not can be helpful. The long wheelbase is tough and throwing it into 2Hi to slide the rear around helps.

HEY!! Wait a minute! You making fun of my ESOF?!
If you have a shifter on the floor - why do you need them stinkin' lights?
LOL! Sounds like a linkage problem, maybe got a stick or rock hung in there a time or two. Is there any slop in the linkage? Caked mud and such?
I do take meticulous care of the underside of my SD. I have undercoated the entire truck (excluding driveshafts and exhaust and any moving parts including linkage). I would never poke fun of your 4wd system it is just that I have had many issues with hitting the button and hoping it works. I like the ability to feel the shifter engage and no there is no slop in the linkage. I would hate to have to take it apart.
