You can shift from 2H to 4H at any speed up to 55mph unless the outside temperature is below 0C or 32F. In that case you should be traveling below 45mph or slower in my opinion before shifting. In order to shift from 4H to 4L, you should be stopped with the transmision in neutral, and your foot on the brake. Use the same procedure to shift out of 4L. I hope this helps.
The (as my friend calls them) "heater control" 4x4's seem to work pretty well without many problems. It's nice being able to just turn the **** and have it go into 4x4.
Some people say that the manual shifters are much more reliable but they have some electronic parts working in the transfer case and to lock in the front axle too so i dont think there is much difference.
You don't like all of the lazy man's creature comforts on your truck? Twista4x4 and pusha da OD off?
I am spoiled, but I know that over the years, all of these fancy switches and buttons are gonna die on me. But for now, these rank right up there with the TV remote control!!
Neutral: Easy flat towing, or towing on a wheel lift. You really shouldn't tow a 4x4 on a wheel lift by the front. Towing by the rear is better, but still not great, especially if you don't have a center axle disconnect. Have I ever used it, once when I was towing a blazer on a dolly. But that once made it worth not having to take the driveshaft out. Besides, Chevy has it and I don't want chevy to have something I don't! Even if I never use it.
The button dislike, no. But I think it would be much easier to select 3rd gear if it was on the shift selector. The way it is now, its a two step process, put truck in gear and turn off O/D. Where a selector would be a 1 step, put truck in 3 process. You also have to remember to turn off O/D every time you turn the key off (if you are doing it for towing reasons). So in reality the lazy button is more work
About the O/d button i think that the operation should be reversed. When ever you start up the truck the overdrive should be off. and when you want to, put the overdrive on.
