IP help please

Hey guys,

I am due for a new IP and am going to do the injectors and glow plugs all at the same time. I have already replaced my return line kit, and am trying to decide on the other parts. I have already purchased Beru ZD-9 glow plugs,

(Great price here)

Genuine Motorcraft ZD-9 Glow Plugs 7.3L IDI 87 - 94 | eBay

I am probably going to go with reman injectors, because the budget is tight., I am looking at these

I know that a lot of people have had good luck with the U-haul IP's and from what I understand these pumps are out of production and rebuilds are our only choice. My question is this. I have a 93 with a banks sidewinder, 4.11 gears and the dreaded E40D! It has plenty of power for me, but my highway mileage seems low. I average about 15 unloaded in a 2WD F250 with highway tread tires. I am hoping for better. I plan to get bb code injectors. but how important is the fuel screw on the pump if I don't plan to turn it up anyway? I am not sure if the U-haul pump has it. Here is the link. Can anyone tell from the pics if it does or not? I have already e-mailed to the tech center to ask.

FUEL INJECTION PUMP International 7.3 Diesel 1988-1990 | eBay

DCP also has a pump at a reasonable price which is for the IDI turbo which I am sure will have the screw.

It is about another 50 bucks.

Does anyone have any experience with DCP, or sources for other pumps or injectors? The link:

I know that new Delphi injectors are my best bet, but the best price I can find is around 300 bucks. I can really use that extra 200 bucks in my pocket, but I understand that cost is relative. So how about some input from the collective on the subject,

Thanks,

Mac.

Some on here will tell you to stay as far away from DCP as possible. i got my injection pump from them...
i purchased my rebuilt IP from their ebay store and it arrived with in a few days. i got all organized and after reading Mel's great article about how to service the fuel system on these IDI's i embarked on swaping IP's. the whole proccess went really smooth. once i got all the air blead out of the IP and lines and such, she fired right up, idled nice and smooth and has not missed a single beat in any outdoor temp for 4.5 months now. The truck has ran great. i have gotten good mpg as well. i can say that i was impressed with the overall professionalism of their ordering and shipping process. Once they got my core, there was not a single delay or problem in getting my core charge refunded. everything from them was easy to understand and very professional.

None of the pictures of the pumps posted have fuel screws. Since you do have a turbo, I suggest getting one calibrated for the turbo. Delphi injectors aren't always the best. I had a bad one out of the box even after Russ pop tested all 8 that I bought. Reman should be good as long as you get a decent brand. I got 8 for the price of one from DCP. Try ordering an IP install kit and one new injector. You may get 8 and the wrong install kit, but still a good deal.

You'll want to pick up some #111 Viton O-rings from mcmastercarr.com so you can replace the ones on the injectors with the better material.

Motorcraft part number

Thanks guys,

I might spring for the DCP turbo pump. Does anyone know the Motorcraft part number for the bb code injectors for the IDI? I might have a line on an OEM set but I want to make sure they are the right ones.

TNX,

Mac

Eatont999,
How did you get a bad one if Russ tested them? I just received some from him today. Great service from him, by the way.

I have no idea. Maybe it was OK during testing but there was machining debris that clogged it, maybe something happened in shipping or maybe I did something. All I know is that a new reman injector fixed all the shaking issues I was having.
