I don't think so....I know the retrofit kits usually suggest putting in different O-rings, orifices, etc. but I have heard stories about people using R12 parts and having it work fine. The dryer unit you will probably need to replace though (the little can thing by the heater box with the AC line running to it).
I wish I still had my old condenser, I would have given it to you for free. Shoot, I might still have one laying around....are you in Texas?
You can use the factory condensor for a retrofit just fine. If you ever have to replace it, the replacement units(even motorcraft) are made to better accomodate R134a, but will still work with 12.
I know I got one in a parts rig. I think it's an 85 I know its a 350. You can have it for the cost of shipping. Can't say if it leaks or is stopped up though. This truck was in pieces when I got it. I'm in North Texas just west of Weatherford. If your lookin for a road trip ya can have it for nada. Hell I'll even pull it for ya. lemme know. You can also google K&K auto parts in Graham they got about 75 acres of these things just ripe for the pickin. I got a perfect dash pad the other day form them along with some other goodies. Long drive though its Just north of PK lake (35-40 miles).
