I would like colder Air Conditioning, I have heard that you can install a water shut off wich you can use in the summer to keep the hot water from going to the heater core will this work?? Or does mine already have this it's an 02?? Thanks in advance.
R134 just doesn't blow as cold as the older R12 freon. Its expensive, doesn't cool as well as you'd hope and your still required to have the system evacuated the same way they required R12 to be if you want to work on the system. If its so much safer then why does it require a special machine to evacuate the system?
the new refrigerent is r404a. it has already been approved by ford and most other car makers. r134a production has stopped except for the johnson plant in texas which will stop by end of year.
Speaking of the heater valve mod... For of you that have done this, it's been long enough by now to see if any heater core problems developed from lack of circulation (corrosion, etc). Anybody have a problem?
On top of that, they will be phasing out R134 eventually. It's almost as bad as R12 when it comes to Ozone depletion.
Where did you come up with that?
(if r404a a direct replacement for r134a or do we have to go through all the conversion crap we went through from r12 to r134a?)
R404/R507 is a commercial gas that was designed to take the place of R502 after the phase out, it can't be used in a R134a system the pressures are to high. Its biggest use is commercial freezers and some medium temp coolers and if you think R134a is expensive you will really be shocked with R404. R404/R507 has been around just about as long as R134A. If they start using it in automotive the systems will have to be totally resigned and there will be no retrofit.
I have been in the commercial refrigeration business for 25 years and I have heard nothing about R134a being discontinued. Just think about how many millions of household refrigerators and freezer have been produced sense the introduction of R134, and all the small commercial coolers that use R134a. Its not used in bigger units because its not all that great of a refrigerant.

Think about all the millions of units that were produced with R12. Some of the guys at one of my clients, and auto manufacturer were talking about it. I also read an article just recently on yahoo news or something like that.

When my suppliers tell me its going to be phased out them I will believe it, I was just at a open house for a supplier and no one said a word and everyone there made their living in the industry, I'm talking factory reps not just people on the user end.
