Newbie question here. Can I just strip out everything related to the A/C in my truck and just buy a smaller belt for the engine? The A/C doesn't work and it is an original R-12 unit. I don't really want to invest in a new A/C compressor or try to do a R-12 to R-134 conversion. I just want to get rid of the thing all together. Is there anything I am missing here?

Ac vehicles bring more resale $$$ if to just leave the stuff in the truck. Plus it may only need a charge to get it working again. It may have a low-high pressure safety switch in-line to protect the system from being damaged when low freon. And the day will come when you'll wish you had the AC working like the summer from Hell comes your way..orich
Yes you can. If you don't want your bracket system, I would love to take it off your hands. On my first 72 F100 It had no enginge ac parts but had the big box in the drivers side. I took it out and bought a heater unit out of a junck yard. I even replaced the controls so you would never know it had ac Was pretty easy. That was twenty years ago.
I got a new 72 which I want to put ac in this time. It had ac in it but the bracket system in the engine is jacked up. If you are getting rid of yours hit me up.
He can do what I stated I did in my original post. He can switch out the ax/heater box wither a heater box from a donor box. I did it in one of my trucks. I even swapped the control panel in the dash. The original one had controls for the ax. After this was done it looked like it came without ax. I hated that big box taking up all that space on the passenger side. It was not working so I got rid of it. Log course it it worked I would have kept it. The problem was the PO sealed engines and it had no brackets or compressor. I was 18 and in could never afford to pay for that stuff. It was my daily driver The truck I have now I plan to put ac in. I just need the brackets for it. It's a 360.

You're speaking of factory installed integral A/C that is combined with the heater, as the A/C controls are in the same panel as the heater controls.
What will the OP do if his truck has deluxe dealer A/C that is combined with the heater? Not one dash part is the same as factory A/C.
And, where pray tell in this day and age, will the OP find a 1968/72 with a heater only? Somewhat EZ to find in TX & CA, cuz more of these trucks were sold new in these two states than anywhere else.
But this won't be the case in SC where the OP resides.
You win. I have never seen the ax system you at talking about. Only the under dash add ons and the combo unit that I had. Would love to see a picture. If someone has one please post it.

1968/72 F100/350: Factory installed A/C, Deluxe and Economy dealer installed A/C's are all 'hang-on' units, bolt to the bottom of the dash.
1973 was the first year that FoMoCo offered factory installed, Deluxe & Economy dealer installed 'in dash' A/C's for F100/350's.
Same three A/C's: 1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco.

Where are you located? I would be willing to take the parts off your hands (and leave some cash in your pocket) if you were close.
i took my 68 factory ac out , got good $$ on ebay for the control panel and evap (in cab part) I plan on installing the classic auto A/c system which comes with a built in heater and takes up less room than the factory unit did .
