Ficm blues

Well I just checked my ficm with key on engine not running I had 49.8 volt with engine running I had 28 -29 volts. I think this explains my bucking and jerking condition. Now the question is is there another test I can do to be sure this is it before I drop a pile of money on a new ficm? And is there a place I can buy one other than ford? Ford wants $915.00 for one my problem is my truck is a daily driver and can be down for a week waiting on my ficm to be sent off and repaired. Has anyone dealt with swamps can I buy one from them and then send my core after I get the new one installed and what are the advantages of getting a swamps hot tune on it?

Have you tried doing the re-solder job yourself to possibly save yourself money?
The procedure is up in the Tech Folder.

No other test needed. You've confirmed you have a bad FICM with the low voltage. No need to buy a new one. Just do the research and call some folks like Swamps - they have a good rep. You'll get varying opinions on the upgraded voltages and programming. I left mine stock, I need long reliability for every component.

If you'll do a search on FICM repair you'll get a ton of info and sources of repair. Some will pre-ship you a FICM and others will simply repair and return. The repair and return guys are usually cheaper than the advance shippers. You can also attempt the repair yourself - there is excellent info in the tech folder. Be aware that if you attempt the fix and it gets mucked up, most (if not all) will not accept yours as a core return.

I have been looking around and found a to of info on the ficm I really don't feel comfortable doing the repair myself so I would really like to buy one and ship my back for core just to be sure I have done the ficm check correctly Mine is a 7 pin and I checked the Top pin closest to the passenger side in the row of 4 I under stand it's diffrent from the 4 pin and I am going off memory here cause I couldn't find the picture of the correct 7 pin ficm to check

WeldWorks, what year is your Ford 6.0? Checked your profile and all it lists is a Ford 150.

Hmmm... Depends on how much he wants and for how long he guarantees them... He's probably kept them indoors, so they're probably in good shape. Definitely a crap shoot...

Get hold of Ed Stefan at FICM Repair.com - Your Source for FICM Repair The repair and component upgrade is VERY reasonably priced. You will have a superior FICM compared to anything you'll get from a recycle yard. Also, get one from a later model truck with the 4 screw......I think you'll be better off in the long run. Programming won't be an issue.
