Third brake light wire.

Need to locate a third brake light wire that can be used to operate the third brake light on recently installed topper. The truck is a 2011, f150 supercab. As late as 1997 Ford provided a wire for that purpose. It was easily found protruding from the conduit covering the wires to the driver side tail light assembly. Can't find it on the 2011. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I just did my 2010....its up front now, drivers side. between the master cylinder and the air intake box..single wire sticking out with a piece of shrink tubing on it..Green wire if I remember correctly.

there is only a little sticking out..kind of a pain to run a wire all the to the back so make sure you pick up power from your battery for an inside the cap light as well..dont forget the inline fuse

Third brake light wire

murph1,

Thank you very much. I had no idea where to look. Have been looking for some time. If it is still there on the 2011, will make the connection tomorrow. Can't help but wonder why they put there.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner, been away from my computer for a few days.

Thanks again.

make sure you pickup a good ground...I used one of the bumper mounting bolts.smeared the connection with dielectric grease before tightening everything up..

Third brake light wire

murph1,

It's done and working fine. I found the wire in the exact location you gave me, and followed your instructions precisely. The brake light was not the only wire I found, there are three wires sticking out at the spot. One is green with a black tracer, another yellow with a green tracer, the other is blue with orange tracer. I chose green first and it wasn't the the brake light wire. Then I tried the yellow and that wasn't it. Getting a little concerned at that point, I didn't think the wire would be blue, but it is. Don't have a clue what the other two wires are for. There is no juice on either.

I had installed the interior light some time ago, and did run a wire from the battery with a fuse in line.

Thanks again for your assistance, not sure how long it would have taken me to finish the job without your help.

Regards
