Hello. I just purchased a fiberglass topper for my 2000 F150 XLT and I would like to wire the third brake light. I was told Ford has a special wire under the bed just for this. Is this true and what doe's it look like?
I have 1994 F150 that has a "High mount brake light" plug under the hood on the drivers side, I recently found this as I was tracing the wire from the rear of the truck/topper area to the front, I was amazed that Ford would provide such a wire from the factory, I have a Leer topper and I think the bulbs are out on mine, but I can't seem to get the light apart to fix them, may be your truck has the same wire???
Supercab, where is this plug at? I have a factory label on the loom of wires going to the master cylinder that says "center high mount brake light feed", then there's a wire (not factory) running out of it to the back of the truck. I always wondered where the factory connection was.
Well guys, the job is complete.
It turns out, Ford installs a light green wire on all f150 after 1997 for just this purpose. It can be found in the wiring harness in the back bumper. You can't miss it, it's not connected at one end. Simply disconnect the harness in the bumper on the drivers side near the tail light. Then follow it back about 8". Connect one wire from the brake light to this and the other to a ground.... and your done.
