I have a 1978 F-100 that came from the factory with air. My question is the cab different between trucks with air and those that didn't? Everything was taken off the truck except for the dash controls. All the hoses, pump and the rest of the system is gone.
Yes the firewall is the only thing different, the a/c truck has a big hole for the box and the non a/c has just a small hole for the blower motor, I recently had to cut the hole installing a/c into a non a/c truck.
I'm guessing you're looking to swap a non A/C heater box over to your A/C cab? It'll require a little fab, but AFAIK, the rest of the box is the same and it should bolt in. I'm bracing for the corrections now though
The a/c and non a/c boxes in the 75 and 76 that I did the swap with were different and do not bolt in the same, if you are going to go no a/c in a a/c cab you will have to get a sheet metal panel and fill the big hole, the firewall has a bump for the blower on the non a/c cab. pic is the non a/c firewall before I cut it out for a/c.
When I changed mine I had my old non air cab right there so I just cut that whole section out of the old cab and welded it into the new cab. After doing it, I'd recomend going to a junk yard for the section of firewall and all the parts you will need. That way it all goes together easy and all the holes will be there in the right placees. It would be much harder to try to patch up the ac firewall and try to drill the holes in the right places, if they aren't then things that have to seal won't line up right and the box is studed making it harder to locate the holes.
