I have a 1976 Ford F-100 with a 360. I noticed today that my heater core was leaking into the cab of my truck. I pulled the lines off the back and bypassed them. I need to pull the core out and get it repaired. I have absolutely no clue how to expose the heater core so I can remove it? The pickup does not have air conditioning. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
You should be glad you don't have A/C. Its fairly straightforward, disconnect the blower motor and then I think there's like 4 or 5 bolts that hold the heater box (the black plastic thing) and then you should be home free. I made a thread a while back called "fix your lukewarm heater problem" where part of the thread explains how to get the heater box out. Try a search for that. I'd post a link but I'm on my phone, I'll post the link when I get home
One thing I always do is blow the heater core out before removing the box out from under the dash. That way you don't get antifreeze all over the floor in the cab when you wrestle the box down and out.
hey thanks for all the great info guys. i am about to tear my heater system apart as nothing works and i have been reding as much as i can about everything and the writeup is very useful.
