Looking to replace my heater core(???) since it's leaking antifreeze into the cab. At least I think it's the heater core, but when I looked for replacements online I got radiator-looking parts. It's in a 1965 F100 240 I6. Here's a pic of it:
Could it just be the housing leaking underneath? It's the bottom of whatever this is--^
This is the other half of it.
Again, it's completely inside the cab right under the glove box which I think is the heater right? What would work as a replacement? I hear NumberDummy(read: Guru) is in recovery, so I wish him a speedy and complete one.
Been several yrs. since I reconditioned the 65 heater, if recall, linked below appear same or simular, since the item covers Broncos and Pickup thru 77 the item is possibly generic and may require some minor refab. Perhaps another member will chime in with additional info. Word of caution, take care in removing the heater boot, difficult to come by. I used brand 'Tire Care' to delicately clean the 65's boot and black liquid gasket sealer to repair minor tears, cracks, etc. Finally, inside the core housing there should be some insulation which suspect will be deteriated and will need to be replaced. Once disassembled it's a good time to clean and make repairs to cables, and/or wires. With the cables that were difficult used a very mild metal etch solution and let them set then made sure to thoroughly dry and apply a lubricant to the interior of cable housing.
Edit: Since posting recalled bookmarking a thread addressing the topic may find helpful. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...read-this.html May find add info by running search: Pulled down the 'Forum' menu then opened the 'search' menu, type in subject 'heater core', then narrowed search to the 61-66 Forum.
More than likely if you have antifreeze in the cab your heater core is the problem. Your heater CORE does look like a miniature radiator It is located in that box you took a picture of. I suggest you find a repair manual and look up on how to replace it. Or take it to a shop if you are unfamiliar with replacing one. This will save you time and money in the long run. Good luck be safe.
I actually just completely disassembled the heater box from my 65. All you need to do is pull off the metal cover where the heater core tubes come out of, where the heater box bolts up to the firewall. There are 5-6 self tapers i believe that hold the piece on. Heres a pic.
