Hello,
I am wondering about these performance chips I've been reading about. You can get one for only $60, and from what I've read, it seems a no-brainer to get one. "improved power, improved fuel economy..." Has anyone put a performance chip in their truck and if so, do you see a noticeable difference in power and gas mileage? What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.
I would be extreamly cautions about those ultra cheap chips. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about saving money but in this situation its really just better to go to a shop and spend 600 or 700$ but have them custom tune the chip and all that to you're truck.
I've got a friend with a 5.3L Silverado and he bought one of those bargain chips off the internet and installed it in his truck. At first all seemed fine, he said it felt quicker and had sharper throttle response...But after two weeks it totally fried his trucks internal computer which set him back thousands to have fixed.
Its your money, but I will tell you I just got an SCT X3 with 2 custom tunes from here for $389 shipped. That was a Labor day special, but I have yet to hear anyone say anything negative about Mike (he is also a site sponsor). His service and customer support are top notch, money well spent! Shifting and power on my 87 Performance/towing tune he did for me are great. I haven't tried the 91 Perf. tune yet, maybe when gas prices drop a little! Just my .02 also.
dont buy the cheap chips all theyre designed to do is fool the computer by telling it the sensors are reading differently a dangerous and counter productive thing on modern engines with the amount of computer control they have.
spend the money for some quality. i hear good things about sct but have no experience
