I have a 76' F-250 with a 360. Under the dash on the left hand side below the light/wiper controls pointing down toward the floor is a button. There are two wires coming from it, one goes up the door post and one goes into the engine bay. It clicks when you push it. What is it for? Is it stock or something someone added?
OH that was the ejection seat activator I installed in the truck when I sold it years ago, must not be working right. Sorry to be a smart a**, just had to say something. Sounds like an aftermarket job, your guess is good as mine what it's for. If it makes a clicking sound, sounds like it might be a starter button of some kind. See if you can't trace the wires to where they go, still dont' understand why it'd make the clicking sound though.

With optional courtesy lamps, there are two switches, one in each A piller and lamps under the dash.
These switches have a button. When the door is opened, the button pops out, the lights then come on.
bill, just becouse my truck has the button switches in the A-pillars for the dome light doesnt nessisarily mean i have the under-dash courtisy lights correct?
